Community
Phantom has no chat or lounge of its own. You meet other Phantom users through plugins, in two ways:
- Shared rooms: a plugin's own room that everyone with the plugin can walk into together.
- Real-time channels: messages passed between copies of a plugin on different people's computers.
Both go through Phantom's server, so the same rules and protections apply whatever the plugin.
Shared rooms
Other Phantom users in a shared room show up as their avatars, with their Animal Jam screen names, and what they say appears in the normal chat balloons. Animal Jam doesn't hear any of it.
- Only plugins from the Phantom store can share a room, and only at a version the store has reviewed. Plugins still in development never get a public room.
- The server masks slurs for everyone and drops links. Phantom masks swearing before it draws a balloon.
- A room holds 30 people. When it's full, another copy opens beside it.
Rules
A lot of Phantom users are young. These rules apply in shared rooms and plugins:
- Be kind. No bullying, threats, or picking on someone for who they are.
- Keep yourself safe. Don't share your password, your real name, where you live, your school, or ways to reach you outside Animal Jam. Nobody from Phantom will ever ask for them.
- No scams. Don't promise items, gems or memberships for anything, and don't ask for someone's account.
- Keep it in the game. Don't try to get people to meet you somewhere else.
- No spam. Phantom slows down anyone who floods a room.
Breaking the rules can get you banned from the community for good: no shared rooms and no real-time channels. Your Phantom plan and the rest of the app aren't affected.
Hiding and reporting
Plugins that show you other people can offer these through phantom.aj.community.
- Hide someone you met in a shared room or through a plugin's real-time channel. After that, neither of you sees or hears the other in any shared room or channel, on any computer you sign in on. They aren't told. You can unhide them from the same plugin. You can hide up to 500 people.
- Report someone and Phantom's moderators get the last thing you saw them say in a shared room, along with which room it was. You can report something for up to half an hour after it was said.
What's kept
Chat in shared rooms is passed on, not stored. The server keeps the last half hour in memory so it can be reported and moderated, then forgets it.
Your Phantom account keeps the people you've hidden (as ids, nothing they said) and any reports you've made.
Phantom's moderators can watch shared rooms and plugins' real-time traffic live. They only see people's Animal Jam screen names, never the Phantom account behind them. They can disconnect someone, ban an account from the community, or turn off a plugin's real-time channels.
